BRIDS Collaborates with Badminton Legend Liliyana Natsir to Promote Financial Literacy

Jakarta, 09 June 2023 – Data from the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) as of May 2023 shows that the demographics of individual investors in the Indonesian Capital Market are dominated by Millennials and Gen Z, or investors under 40 years of age, with around 80% of total investors.

Seeing a great opportunity to increase financial literacy among these investors, BRI Danareksa Sekuritas ("BRIDS") collaborated with Indonesian badminton legend and part of the Millennials, Liliyana Natsir to promote financial literacy to investors and potential Millennials and Gen Z investors through an event titled "Young Achievers For a More Certain Future", which was held online on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

At the event, apart from sharing his ups and downs as a badminton athlete, the athlete who is commonly known as Ci Butet also shared his experiences on how he manages finances and invests to prepare for his future after retiring as an athlete.

Liliyana revealed that after retiring as an athlete, she began to focus on building relationships to develop her business and spend time with her family. “As an athlete, there must be a period, especially if there are injuries, so financial preparation is very important now for the future. Currently, many investment opportunities are safer, especially for athletes because if you already have an investment plan and do it, you don't need to be confused and dizzy thinking about the future,” said Liliana.

Liliyana also said that she prefers to invest in properties such as shophouses, land, and houses and build businesses or invest in the real sector.

Meanwhile, Nafielah Mahmudah, a senior badminton journalist who was also present at the event and who is usually known as Mbak Naf, said that she has also started investing, especially in securities such as mutual funds and bonds.

The Indonesian badminton legend also invites the younger generation who are thinking about starting to prepare for the future, to start thinking about the future from an early age. “For those who are still young, reduce YOLO and have to start thinking about the future. It's never too late to invest, keep learning so you know the difference between safe investment and fraudulent investment,” Together Liliyana and Nafielah closed the event by inviting the younger generation to invest.
